In East Africa, shrinking herds of wild game have become national treasures worthy of protection. Law enforcement efforts have forced poachers to focus on a less protected cash crop young, white women with well-shaped bodies. The poachers supply women for a third world sex industry where white prostitutes sell for many times the going rate. When a female university student disappears without a trace, from an archaeological site in the Gol Mountains of northern Tanzania, her family retains a retired bounty hunter, Eli Walking Bear, to find her. Eli begins his search in Nairobi where he hires a guide, Jena Howell of Howell Safaris--a woman with her own cross to bear. Eli’s quest takes an unexpected turn when he rescues Zuleika, a black female slave with a thirst for revenge.
The hunt for the kidnapped woman takes Eli and Jena into the very guts of the sex slave trade, where the law is inept or corrupt, the criminals brutal, and everyone’s hand is against them.
"White Slave" received honorable mention recognition in the genre fiction category of Writer's Digest 15th Annual International Self-Published Book Awards. Selected from a field of over 400 entries, it was promoted in the 2008 March/April issue of Writer's Digest.

Although well written, I found this book lacked emotion, especially at every potential erotica turn. Eli, the ex-Viet Nam veteran seemed to be a closet junkie, self medicating with his stash of heroin until he hooks up with the actual heroine,Jen. She's a safari guide who somehow through one kiss, ends up being Eli's drug of choice. Eli never runs out of bullets or morphine as he gives his medicine to those truly in need, while he never takes another hit half way through the story. No withdrawal for Eli, and no animal attacks or sex. I liked this book but, I was ready for a real trip through the serrangetti, not the G-rated fast track through Bush Gardens. Other than a man eating dung beetle I think the preface was more alluring than the book.Product details

Good reading
A great read
This is actually a good adventure story and not X-rated. Don't buy it if you are looking for a sex novel.
The story was fast paced and an easy read. It has something for everyone. Adventure, sex, both wanted and unwanted, with drugs and kidnapping thrown in for good measure.
The story was interesting and diferent, easy to read not to many mistakes. it could have used better editing.
I was a bit apprehensive to buy and read this book after reading the reviews on because two of the three reviewers know the author. I do not. I took a chance and must say was glad I did. Great descriptive writing. I felt like a voyeur in the African jungle (without the bug bites). Very thought provoking piece of fiction. White Slave really makes you think about what goes on in some very dark places. I read the book in two sittings and look forward to Mr. Gilbertson's next book.
The reviews on this were fairly high so I had hopes of a good read. I was not disappointed. Basic plot is an African "poacher" is kidnapping white women and selling them into sexual slavery. A bounty hunter from the US is hired to find one of the kidnapped girls and goes to town on the band of poachers with the help of 2 women he meets along the way. The characters are developed and the story flows. It is believable and the sex is not over top or unnecessarily more graphic than the plot calls for. I read like the action novel it is and was believable. The writer did his homework and overall I thought is was fairly descriptive, believable, and entertaining.
